A Word about the Past ......

  Newsletter - November 2009

The snowfall from another big snow winter, hopefully not a trend, left in time to an April 7 open, a little earlier than usual. The greens were stubborn, but did come in with time and care. And then, rain, rain, rain (and more rain). We were very fortunate that we never had to close, and always had carts available. Seems like summer lasted for three weeks in August and September! The course is still very lush…it’s a shame winter is on the way!

Some “thank you’s” we must share this year:

In regards to the Swing Into Golf clinic, many thanks to Ron Moody for running with the ball for organizing a successful day. Also to the members, and golf coaches and players, who volunteered their time. And to the sponsors who made the day possible: Augusta Elks Lodge, Gardiner Elks Lodge, and Pine State Trading. The kids all seemed to have a great time, I’m sure they thank you all, too!

The Ladies Invitational had another successful year, with the hard work of The Meadows Ladies Golf Association volunteers. And “Team Meadows” survived the 5K Walk for Hope in Augusta! Cancer survivors thank you for all your support in their causes, and kudos to you all as well from all of us here at the club!

Many thanks to our members and guests for your support in a great season! We hope you have enjoyed being here, and look forward to having you back with us again in 2010. Work has continued to improve the course, and we appreciate that you have acknowledged all our improvements.

Some of our improvements this year have been the following:

* 7th Hole: Rebuilt cart path
* 14th Hole: Rebuilt cart path
* Ditching throughout the course to improve drainage (and boy was there
a lot to drain!)
* Added an early dose of snow mold deterrent; sprayed to hopefully help lessen the effects of any snow mold

We truly hope these improvements will significantly contribute to make golfing more pleasant at The Meadows!

Congratulations to the champions of our two major tournaments of the 2009 Season:

And, A Word about the Future ......

Please check out  the membership rates for the 2010- season on our Fees Web Page.

We did get the ball rolling this season with some new games this season. The Members Socials seemed successful (Except for that darned rain! Boy, we said that a lot this summer!), and the Member/Member and Member/Guest events came off very well for the first season. The Couples Championship (twice delayed!) finally came together, and would have had over 20 players if it was played on the original date! We plan to continue those, and hope to form a “Members Committee” come spring that can help keep these events going and growing, and work on new ideas also!

We will do our best to keep you informed of what we have upcoming. If you do use email, make sure to include it in the space provided on the 2010 Membership Application, being mailed in early January. We did get in what email addresses we had this year, but make sure to let me know if yours has changed or you didn’t receive any emails this summer.

Let us assure you that in the months and years ahead we will still do our best to consistently provide you with quality golf at reasonable prices. We will work to treat others as we expect to be treated - with fairness, respect, honesty and support.

Thank you, once again, for your business in the past. We look forward to serving you again in the future! You are important to us.
